Shanghai locks down as COVID surges

As of March 27, Shanghai had 50 newly confirmed COVID-19 cases and 3,450 asymptomatic COVID-19 cases.

To contain the spread of the disease, which has been dominated by asymptomatic cases in the region, the Shanghai government announced on Sunday that it planned a two-stage lockdown over the next week and a half. The impact on business activity could be felt nationally and globally.

During the containment period, all personnel is not allowed to leave their homes, and personnel and vehicles are only allowed to enter and leave. All enterprises shall implement closed production or work at home.

Medical personnel, epidemic prevention personnel, public security police, takeaway delivery personnel, etc. who are required by their work shall travel normally with their work cards or certificates issued by their work units.

Except for public service enterprises such as water, electricity, fuel oil, communication, transportation, grain, oil, meat, and vegetables, which are involved in citizens’ daily life and the basic operation of the city, all enterprises shall implement closed production or work at home.
